Curriculum Vitae
Gaetano Giunta received the Dr.Eng. degree in electronic engineering from the University of Pisa, Pisa, Italy, in 1985, and the Ph.D. degree in information and communication engineering from the University of Rome “La Sapienza”, Rome, Italy, in 1990. In 1985, he was a research fellow of the Italian Research Council (CNR) of Pisa. In 1986, he served in the Italian Army in the “Research and Studies Center for Military Applications” (CRESAM), S. Piero a Grado, Italy. In 1986, he also obtained a research grant from the CNR of Pisa. From 1987 to 1990, he was with the INFO-COM Department, University of Rome “La Sapienza”, as a Ph.D. candidate. He was also (since 1989) a research fellow of the Signal Processing Laboratory (LTS), Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland.
In 1989, he became an Assistant Professor, being from 1992 with the INFO-COM Department, University of Rome “La Sapienza”. Since 1998, he has been the Professor of “Digital Signal Processing” with the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Roma Tre, Rome, Italy.
In 2001, he became an Associate Professor of Telecommunications of the University of Roma Tre. Since 2005, he has been a Full Professor of Telecommunications with the Department of Applied Electronics (until 2012) and the Department of Engineering of the University of Roma Tre, holding the chair of “Digital Signal Processing”.
He currently teaches “Digital Signal Processing” and “5G and Beyond” in the Master course of Telecommunications Engineering, “Signal Processing for Biomedical Engineering” in the Master course of Biomedical Engineering, and he also taught “Wireless Telecommunications” in the Master course of Computer Engineering of the University of Roma Tre. His internet site for Signal Processing Education was formerly cited in the IEEE Signal Processing Internet Base.
From 2013 to 2018, Prof. Giunta was the coordinator of the Teaching College of Electronic Engineering of the Dept. of Engineering at Roma Tre University, including the academic Bachelor course in Electronic Engineering and the three academic Master courses in Electronic Engineering, Communication & Information Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering.
Since 2018, Prof. Giunta has been a member of Official Committee for the Evaluation of University Roma Tre (“Nucleo di Valutazione di Ateneo”) during the four years 2018-2021 and the following period 2022-2025.
The research interests of Gaetano Giunta are in signal and image processing for mobile communications, wireless systems, and medical applications. In particular, he has published numerous research articles on signal processing for communications and localization, signal detection, hidden communications and spectral monitoring, image analysis for medical applications, fast DSP algorithms for detection, estimation, and modeling in wireless communications.
Prof. Giunta is a member of national and international research groups on multimedia communications, and signal processing for mobile and wireless communications, and the local responsible of projects on signal processing techniques for synchronization in mobile systems.
Prof. Giunta leads since 2012 the Laboratory of Signal Processing for Telecommunications and Economics (SP4TE) at the University of Roma Tre.
Prof. Giunta has been a Member of the IEEE Signal Processing, Communications, and Vehicular Technology Societies since 1988, and a Senior Member of IEEE since 2011. Since 1993, he has served as a reviewer for several international journals, such as IEEE Transactions on Communications, IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, Signal Processing, IET (IEE Proceedings) -Vision, Image, and Signal Processing, IET (IEE Proceedings) -Radar, Sonar and Navigation. Prof. Giunta has been the local representative member of the Italian Inter-Universities Consortium for Telecommunications (CNIT).
